Today, The People's Daily published an article titled "Main Teachers Impart Knowledge, Form Teachers Provide Guidance and Companionship – Dual-Teacher Classroom, Continuing the Journey of Online Education," giving a thumbs-up to TAL Education's dual-teacher classroom.
At TAL Education, the main teacher is responsible for the "study" in the student's classroom, and the form teacher is responsible for the "practice" before and after class; the main teacher is responsible for "teaching" and imparting knowledge, while the form teacher is responsible for "developing" and connecting emotions. In the new era, the form teacher assumes the responsibility of "educating people," providing care for children through companionship, encouragement, and praise, making the online classroom warmer.

On July 6th of this year, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, together with the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Bureau of Statistics, released 9 new occupations, and the online learning service teacher is one of them. In the "Notice on the Publicity of the Intended Release of New Occupation Information" issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the online learning service teacher is defined as a person who uses digital learning platforms (tools) to provide personalized, precise, timely, effective learning plans, guidance, support services, and evaluation feedback to learners.
Online education company TAL Education Group has established a "Live + Tutoring" dual-teacher model, which stimulates students' interest in learning to a greater extent and guarantees learning effects, thereby winning the recognition of users.
Comprehensive Education Services
At 6 p.m., Sheng Qianqian, a form teacher at TAL Education's Chengdu campus, sits in front of her computer, opens the camera, and enters the live classroom on time. Fifteen minutes before the start of the formal class, she reviews the content of the previous class and pre-reads the knowledge points of this class with the students in the live classroom. During the formal class, she focuses on the learning status of each student while the main teacher is teaching.
According to the introduction, the job responsibilities of the form teacher include several aspects: pre-class live sessions to help students quickly get into the learning state; in-class follow-up to ensure students' learning effects; post-class summaries to identify problems in students' learning; and daily timely feedback to let parents know about their children's learning situations.
Most form teachers put in extra effort on top of their daily tasks. In order to solve students' misunderstandings and difficulties in learning after class, Sheng Qianqian prepares and reviews lessons with the main teacher before each class. Although it takes a lot of time, she believes that she has an obligation to help students improve their learning abilities together with the main teacher.
Before the form teacher emerged, online education went through the era of CDs, recorded classes, and large-scale live broadcasting. In the early days, recorded classes lacking interaction and instant feedback made it difficult for students to fully concentrate on learning. In the "Live + Tutoring" model, the main teacher focuses on knowledge delivery, while the form teacher assumes more responsibility for "development," providing encouragement and guiding companionship to students with care, love, patience, and responsibility, thereby adding a "developing people" component to online education.
Strict Assessment System
"It is really not easy to become a qualified form teacher," said Qiao Xingyue, a form teacher at the TAL Education campus in Zhenjiang.
Last March, Qiao Xingyue, a senior at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, became an intern form teacher at the online campus. The assessment requirements for form teachers at the online campus dictate that no minor mistakes are allowed. However, in the 3 post-training assessments, he failed to pass two of them. In particular, in the assessment of correcting exercises, due to carelessness, he failed to detect a unit of error, leading to a failure in passing the assessment on time.
After starting work, Qiao Xingyue continuously reminded himself that as a form teacher, he must be meticulous, dedicate himself fully, and take responsibility for his students and the parents who trust him. With this serious and responsible spirit, he quickly grew into an outstanding form teacher.
The strict assessment system has equipped form teachers with solid subject knowledge and good professional ethics.
Specialized Training Programs
"Teacher Xiao Hou, although we have never met, your meticulous encouragement and care for my study and life make me no longer feel lonely and afraid when encountering difficulties. Thank you very much for your hard work over the past six months. Happy Teacher's Day!" This Teacher's Day, Teacher Hou Yu at TAL Education posted the card sent by a student in her WeChat Moments. "This is the first Teacher's Day for me after obtaining the certification as an online learning service teacher, and I feel a heavy responsibility. In the future, I will continue to improve my professional knowledge and skills, maintain communication with students, and accompany them to grow together," Hou Yu said.
It is understood that TAL Education has established specialized training and promotion plans for form teachers: the first is to continuously deepen within the same position and be promoted through professional levels; the second is to pursue a management career and be promoted as Teaching Unit Leader, Subject Team Leader, Base Manager, or Principal; The third is the "Active Water" plan, which encourages talent mobility to horizontally develop across positions, functions, and business units, such as internal transfers to teaching research, quality control, subject operations, teacher selection, and training.
"In the future, online learning service teachers will be an indispensable part of the education scene. Online education companies will pay more attention to establishing a complete management system for online learning service teachers and will develop a system for selection, development, utilization, and retention, making education more promising," a TAL Education spokesperson said.
