On July 26, 2021, Professor Xia Zehan, Director of the UNESCO Office in China, visited TAL Education Group (hereinafter referred to as "TAL"). Dr. Wan Yiting, Executive President of TAL Education Group, extended a warm welcome to Professor Xia Zehan and his delegation. Both sides reviewed the existing cooperation framework between UNESCO and TAL Education Groupand had an in-depth discussion on issues related to technology-enabled education. They both expressed their hope to continue exploring potential cooperation directions in the field of educational information and communication technology based on the existing cooperation framework.
In his opening remarks, Professor Xia Zehan expressed his gratitude to TAL for its support to UNESCO, which aimed to promote the application of artificial intelligence in education, Mobile Learning Week, and the capacity-building efforts jointly carried out during the pandemic to support the education systems of other countries. He also expressed his most sincere thanks to TAL for the solid partnership, outstanding contributions, and suggestions it made during the 2019 First International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education co-organized with the Chinese government. The Beijing Consensus on Artificial Intelligence and Education adopted at the conference has influenced all UNESCO member states. The UNESCO delegation then visited TAL's exhibition hall, where they experienced TAL's educational technology platforms such as Wisroom and the "AI Teacher Chinese Learning System" with the demonstration of TAL staff. They also visited the TAL teaching aid exhibition stand and browsed the customized series of books of TAL's Xueersi. Professor Xia Zehan stated that TAL Education Group's innovative educational technology means and teaching aids make the teaching and learning process in the classroom more dynamic, interactive, and interesting.
Both Professor Xia Zehan and Dr. Wan Yiting expressed their willingness to further strengthen and expand the existing cooperation between the two sides and jointly explore more cutting-edge topics on this basis, such as STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education), sustainable development education, global citizenship education,and more, on the basis of the existing cooperation. At the same time, both sides will leverage their respective strengths and experiences to share the best practices of TAL Education Group and China in educational information and communication technology under the framework of South-South cooperation jointly promoted by China and the United Nations system, thereby benefiting more developing countries and making further contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
