Collaborative Efforts to Advance Youth Reading Promotion in China
National reading has already been elevated to the level of a cultural strategic initiative, forming a crucial aspect of knowledge preservation and cultural innovation. The implementation of this youth reading promotion initiative aims to explore Chinese youths’ reading habits, foster an interest in reading, and cultivate a societal ecosystem of passionate, nationwide reading.
During the ceremony, Nie Zhenning remarked, “As national reading initiatives continue to expand, the nation needs generation after generation of dedicated readers to emerge. Promoting youth reading is not only about encouraging students to read better books or to read more; most importantly, it is about equipping them with effective reading methods and enhancing their reading abilities.”
Principal Shang Hongling of Zhongguancun No. 1 Primary School expressed that reading is a journey of the soul—a lifelong expedition that helps young minds stay clear-headed and independent in today’s complex world.
Beyond schools, families serve as the first classroom in a child’s growth journey and play an indispensable role in fostering reading habits among youths. Fan Deng, founder of the Fan Deng APP, shared his view: “What we purchase isn’t simply a book; it’s the opportunity to immerse ourselves in its content. Families should make every effort to create more opportunities for children to read.”
The availability of truly great books serves as the foundation for youth reading. Laura (Wei Chen) noted, “TAL Xueersi will continue collaborating with others to produce more high-quality content that actively participates in reading promotion initiatives, delivering such content to benefit more children.” It was also reported that Xueersi has published numerous books catering to various young learners' needs, covering skill development, subject knowledge, and a diverse selection of enlightenment and educational resources.
