On February 28, 2019, the annual conference of TAL Education Group was held in Beijing. During the conference, TAL Education Group's founder and CEO, Zhang Bangxin, gave a keynote speech, reflecting on the past and planning for the future. He hopes that in the next three years, TAL Education Group will focus on three things: first, to provide high-quality, low-cost courses and content services to a wider range of social groups; second, to cultivate the ability to personalize teaching based on individual needs; third, to redefine "Xueersi," making it synonymous with "capability improvement." The following are selected viewpoints:
1. Reducing the heavy academic burden on students is not only the responsibility of public schools, but also of private educational institutions. How to alleviate students' heavy academic workload, shape their knowledge structure, and improve their learning efficiency? Wang Zuo shu, President of the China Private Education Association, pointed out that it is necessary to cultivate students' love for learning, stimulate their interest in learning, teach them learning methods, and develop their thinking abilities.
2. TAL Education Group strongly upholds its mission and is committed to using technology to promote educational progress. By applying advanced concepts and technologies from around the world to drive innovation and progress in educational products, the goal is to ensure that everyone has access to fair and quality education to achieve their life dreams.
3. Each employee at TAL Education Group receives three types of "compensation": salary, growth, and a sense of achievement. In addition to money, employees should be able to acquire knowledge, make progress, and thereby gain a sense of accomplishment and achievement.
4. The direction of TAL Education Group's business development is gradually shifting from middle- to high-income families to low- to middle-income families, and from outstanding students to average and under-performing students.
5. TAL Education Group's business diversification and decentralization are major trends. Efforts are being made in various aspects such as online and offline education, exam-oriented and quality education, self-operated and empowered education, extracurricular and intracurricular education, and domestic and international operations.
6. TAL Education Group has initially seen some results in online education, but the road ahead remains long, and the complexity and difficulty will surpass expectations.
7. There are no shortcuts in the field of education, so do not dwell on short-term gains or losses. Every detour will not be in vain; it is necessary to stay focused, keep a firm foot on the ground, and move forward one step at a time in order to survive.
8. In the next three years, TAL Education Group will focus on three things: first, to provide high-quality, low-cost courses and content services to a wider range of social groups; second, to cultivate the ability to personalize teaching based on individual needs; third, to redefine "Xueersi."
9. TAL Education Group will take comprehensive measures to address the main contradictions in education: the mass delivery of high-quality content and services; personalized teaching based on user data and profiles on a large scale; and learning progress based on physical and mental health and capability improvement.
10. Xueersi is expected to become synonymous with "capability improvement." The goal of Xueersi's education is progress in learning under the premise of physical and mental health and capability improvement. It is not only about imparting knowledge to children, but more importantly, about cultivating lifelong skills for their benefit.
11. TAL Education Group aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals with "virtue, intelligence, physical health, aesthetics, and labor." Virtue includes language and English; intelligence includes mathematics, physics, and chess; physical health includes physical training and a healthy physique; aesthetics includes online art; labor includes STEM, science, technology, engineering, and math. This will be the long-term product line of TAL Education Group.
12. In the next seven years, TAL Education Group aims to transform from a training institution to an educational institution; from an offline company to a technology service company; from a Chinese company to a global company; and from an operation-oriented company to a data-driven technology company.
